Alas, The Poor Sun
We owe a lot to the sun- pretty much all life depends on it. And now, what do we do, in our infinite scientific wisdom
At least, some of us do. If you are one of “us”, the albinic of complexion, the redheads, those who just prefer to stay indoors- then you might want to take matters into your own hands. As the slogan says, “Why guess…. when you can test?”… and the UV Hawk allows you to test the intensity of sunlight and can alert you when those big bad ultraviolet rays get to be too much.
Basically, you tell it your skin tone, the SPF of the sunscreen you are wearing, and it works as an alarm to help keep you aware of when you might be in danger of overexposure. It’s tiny, light, pretty easy to use, and can even tell you the temperature. We tried it on a beach, we tried it at night time, we tried it indoors, and it seemed to detect… well, something. I guess UV rays are invisible and all, but it wasn’t always clear why it had decided to set off the alarms.
But hey- for around $50, it’s a neat gift idea for the guy who really, really likes sensors. Or for those who just can’t get it through their heads that El Sol will eventually break through their sunscreen and come for their El Souls. The UV Hawk is available at many shops- both online, and ones that require you to get some rays.
